Today: Plate Tectonics PSA Workday

Students had a workday for the PSA project. Tomorrow will be the last workday on this in class with an official due date of Wednesday.

Homework: work on your parts of the PSA project in anticipation for a due date of “end of class” tomorrow.

4/26/18

TODAY: Robots discussion and Tectonics PSA

We started the class with some discussion about the increased presence of robots in our society. Students turned in a worksheet from TUESDAY on articles we read about robots. Students also turned in their worksheet from the field trip.

The rest of the class we worked on the Plate Tectonics PSA project. Here’s a copy of the worksheet: Plate Tectonics PSA

HOMEWORK:

“Clean Up”  field trip notes to turn in.

Finish Robot Article worksheet if not done.

Finish background research for PSA project.

OMSI FIELD TRIP DAY!

It was a great day at OMSI. For students who missed the field trip, I have placed a make-up assignment on  google classroom. Please complete this within a week.

4.17.18

Today: Finished Video Notes Sheet and Plate Boundary Project Part 4.

Homework: Complete either worksheet if not done.

4/16/18

Today: Field Trip Announcement and “Making North America” video

I explained the field trip NEXT WEDNESDAY to OMSI and handed out permission slips.

PARENTS INTERESTED IN BEING A CHAPERONE, PLEASE FILL OUT INFORMATION HERE: https://goo.gl/forms/Vf8EhjYcrJJZIsQo1

We then spent the rest of the class finishing the video started on Friday.

Homework: Finish “Plate Tectonics Project” worksheet #4 through question #4.

4/11/18

In class students worked on worksheet #4 for the Plate Tectonics Boundaries project. Students should have finished through PART 3 on that assignment. That includes defining the different boundaries using the textbook.

HOMEWORK: FINISH PART 3 of WORKSHEET 4. Here is a copy of the sections  needed in the book: Boundary Types

4/10/18

Today: Discovering Plate Boundaries Project

Today in class the students worked on PART 4 of our plate tectonics project. They completed their identification and description of several plate types. Tomorrow we will work on matching those types with plate boundaries described in the textbook.

HOMEWORK: None.

WORKSHEETS: DPB Project Worksheet 4

4.4.18

Topic: Discovering Plate Boundaries Project

In class students worked in their “specialty groups” to analyze data that supports the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift.

Homework: Finish worksheet if not done.

Monday 4.2 and Tuesday 4.3

Topic: Discovering Plate Boundaries

Monday we launched a project aimed at giving students the data which supports the theory of continental drift and plate tectonics. Within the project, students take on a specific role as either a volcanologist, seismologist, geochronologist, or physical geographer. They then began to research and take notes on what that type of scientist does.

Tuesday groups finished up their research into their scientific specialty. They then shared there notes with other specialists, providing each student with a basic overview of the roles of each scientific specialty.

Homework: Finish the first project worksheet if not done yet.
