Topic: Save the Eggs Engineering Design Project

WARM UP: What are the 4 factors that affect the rates of chemical reactions? Which of these factors could come into play with our engineering project?

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTION:

I handed out worksheets with the scoring guide and additional instructions on the project. I explained with more detail the “Design” phase of the project.

HANDOUTS: Egg Saver Draft Plan

Walsh Version Egg Saver Worksheet 2

WORK TIME:

Work on the “design” phase of the egg project. Goal for the period was to finish the first design worksheet from last week (white packet).

HOMEWORK: Collect supplies for the project.

Quarter 2 Grades

I am done entering assignments for quarter 2 grades but will be updating revisions and test corrections over the weekend as well as on Monday. Final grades should be updated to FamilyLink by Monday afternoon.

HOMEWORK: NONE

Today: Save the Egg Project: Insulator Research

WARM UP: We worked on and went over the study guide for the test tomorrow.

Study Guide Summative 2

INSULATOR READING: To prepare for our Save the Eggs project, we read about insulator and conductors and then answered some questions.

HOMEWORK: REVIEW STUDY GUIDE AND PREPARE FOR THE TEST.

Topic: Endothermic and Exothermic Lab Reflections

Today in class we discussed and responded to the questions on the Endothermic/Exothermic lab started last Friday.

HOMEWORK: Finish reading notes started last week.

TEST RETAKES? No retakes, but you can get additional make-up credit if you complete an extension assignment. SEE ME FOR DETAILS.

REGRADING TESTS? I am working on grading corrected tests. Please be patient and you should see corrected scores or other feedback by Monday.

1/5/17

Today: Modeling Chemical Reactions

Notes: Chemical Formulas and Equations

Chemical Equation Notes

Worktime:

We worked on the “Candle Burning Worksheet” that we began on Monday. If not finished, it is due Friday.

HOMEWORK: Finish “Candle Burning Worksheet”

1/4/17

I’m happy to be back at Athey Creek working with all of you. We are continuing to work on chemical reactions over the next few weeks, with a plan to wrap up chemistry and move onto our next unit of Earth Science by the end of the quarter. I heard good feedback from the students and the substitute about how everything went while I was away. This is great to hear and it is great to know I work with a community of students who show respect and maturity when working with a substitute for such a long time. Thank you.
And now… SUPPLIES! SUPPLIES! SUPPLIES!
Mid way through the year is a great time to do a check in on school supplies. I have had several conversations over the last few day with different students about missing journals, pencils, pens, planners, binders, and glue sticks. Please check through supplies and buy additional supplies if needed. Every day in class students should have:
-Pencil
-Journal
-Binder
-Glue Stick (we do lots of gluing of handouts into our journals)
-Highlighters
HOMEWORK: Review check-in vocabulary
  • Reactants
  • Products
  • Chemical Formula
  • Chemical Equation
  • Conservation of Mass
