]]>We continued our exploration of the sun-earth-moon system and the phases of the moon. Students read information from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Astronomy department. They then began an exploration of the lunar phases using the above simulator.

Students also need to continue work with the moon phase journal (daily). For cloudy days, students may use: Time and Date dot com moon information

]]>We then worked through the oreo cookie lab. Finally we launched the Moon Journal (students will do a little each day for the next 28 days) and then closed with relative sizes and distances of the earth, sun, moon system.

]]>We finished the work on the elliptical orbit lab and handed it in.

Students read about orbits from sheets I printed out from this site:

Students were to be able to define and explain orbits in their own words when done reading.

We then re-looked at our notes about Kepler’s laws and made sense of Kepler’s laws of planetary motion in terms of the orbits.
