Wednesday (6/1)

  1.  The opening activity was reading a recent article and relating it to WDC.

  2. In groups, we “played” a review game of chapter 16.

  3. Homework is to read chapter 17 Due:  Periods 4 + 6 = Thursday (6/2)   Periods 3 +5 = Friday (6/3)

Tuesday (5/31)

1.  Class begin today with reviewing activities, events, trends, etc. from grades 6,7,8 ; this info will provide fodder for the speeches as the 8th grade recognition ceremony next week.

2.  In small groups, summary statements from WDC chapters 14 + 15 were read.

3. As a class, WDC chapter 16 was read aloud by 18 students + me.

4.  Responding to reading was assigned:  questions A-E on read around sheet

DUE:  Periods 4 + 6 = Wednesday (6/1)      Periods 3+5 = Thursday (6/2)

5.  WDC chapter 16 is to be read by the next class period.

Monday (5/23)

Next class period= WDC chapters 7,8,9 quiz

Wednesday(5/25) = MAPS testing

 

1. Today in class we read aloud WDC chapter 10 + in groups we composed a memo from the Mothers’ League to Superintendent Blossom requesting the removal of the 101st from Central High School’s hallways.

2. The independent assignment started in class must be completed for homework.  It is this:

  • Select an episode from Chapter 10 + place yourself in that scene.
  • What do you observe (see + hear)?  What do you do?
  • I recommend the following scenes: page 118 ¶6, or page 119, or page 121 ¶4.
  • Write in first person (Use pronouns I, me, my, mine).
  • You can be perpetrator, bystander, target, or ally.

Due:  4th + 6th = Tuesday, May 24      3rd and 5 = Thursday, May 26

Weekend (5/20-5/22)

Read Warriors Don’t Cry chapters 9 and 10. Pop quiz over chapters 7,8,9 on Monday (Tuesday for 5th period).  It will be similar to the quiz over chapters 1-4.

Tuesday (5/17)

1.  Today we read and summarized an article about the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling.  Today is the ruling’s 62nd birthday!

2. Homework:

Periods 3, 5, 6 = Read WDC chapter 6 + write summary using terms/ideas on the bottom of sheet: WDC 5 + 6

Period 4 = Read WDC chapter 7 + write a LETTER to the EDITOR in response to Melba’s news article on pages 87-88.  Here are a few guidelines:

  • Refer to  4 or more of Melba’s details
  •  Include similar personal experiences that connect to Melba’s content
  • Use 6 or more sentences.
  • Write this in your WHITE booklet page 15

Monday (5/16)

  1.  Today we read, analyzed, and sketched images in the poem “Soul Make A Path Through Shouting.”

  2. Next we continued reading Warriors Don’t Cry.

  3. Homework:  Periods 3 + 4 = complete reading guide for chapter 5, read chapter 6, write summary incorporating required terms
