Monday

  • Today we wrote about our favorite breakfast as a pre-reading activity. The rest of the period was what I call “left-overs” and independent work time on Mandalas.  Working on consistent verb tense was a skill lesson reviewed. 

  •  Take-home folders were collected or distributed; these should all be returned by this Friday, Nov. 30.

  • Mandalas will be scored in three categories: 1. presentation  (how attractive it is and blackline), 3 required parts (title, yin-yang, key), and word choice.  Period 6 is due on Wednesday, and periods 4 and 7 are due on Thursday)

  • 2nd period reading log were distributed and discussed

Tuesday

1. Short Stories Literary Terms and Elements Test

You have 4 resources for preparation: 1. Literary terms poster, 2. Elements of Literature handout, 3. QUIZLET set titled “Short-Story Lit-Terms Meade LA4, 4. Short Story Test Review Guide

4th, 5th, 7th periods’ test is Thursday/ 6th period’s is Friday

2. Confess paper due Wednesday for 4th, 6th, and 7th periods/ Thursday for 5th period

3. Verb consistency worksheet due Wednesday 5th period, and Thursday for 4th, 6th, and 7th periods.

4. Review your writing portfolio (only 7th period as of Tuesday), and return with reflection slip and parent signature by Friday.

Monday: In periods 4,5, and 7 we read Roald Dahl’s “The Landlady,” learned the new vocabulary words, and are recording five examples of forshadowing on a ‘postcard.’

Here are the new vocab. words (The set is titled “The Landlady” on QUIZLET):

DUE: “The Landlady” postcard periods 5 and 7 tomorrow, TUESDAY 11/6; and periods 4 and 6 Wednesday 11/7

Tuesday: In period 6 we read “The Landlady” and began writing the postcard with 5 examples of foreshadowing.  It’s due tomorrow.

In periods 5 and 7 the CONFESS paper was introduced, examples were read, and writing time was alloted. A typed draft is needed in class on Friday for period 5 and 7; periods 4 and 6 on Monday.

Wednesday

Today we continued the Confess papers.  (See Tuesday’s entry for due dates.)

Next week, you will have a Short Stories test.  Ms. Meade has entered the literary terms and devices on QUIZLET, so you may use that site to prepare.  The set is titled Short-Story Lit-Terms Meade LA 4.
