Today in periods 4 and 5 much time was alloted to translating lines from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” in to a variety of vernaculars.  These are due for period 5 tomorrow and periods 4, 6, and 7 on Wednesday.

“The Tell-Tale Heart” vocabulary quiz is on the following days: Wednesday 7th and Thursday 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Bring a calculator to 4th period tomorrow for ACT test.

In English/language arts we’re writing a lyrical piece that I’m calling the ‘I love piece,’ but it may be another sentiment such as hope, accept, tolerate, hate, etc.

You have a graphic organizer to use as a pre-writing tool.  Once you decide which sentiment to use as your topic, begin composing a handwritten version.  When that’s done, type it up—-making corrections, additions, eliminations, enhancements as you type.

You will be scored in the following categories:

  • ideas/content that’s specific, interesting, unexpected, fresh, focused

  • sentence fluency that includes some long sentences and some short ones, varied beginnings, and correct punctuation —no comma splices

  • Use of ‘and’ only once per sentence  while avoiding chopping, short sentences

  • correct spelling, especially the homonyms

  • accurate use of apostrophes—apostrophes are for forming contractions and showing possession

My sample paper: I love speeding up 205 to the Portland International Airport

Other Requirements: font size 12 and double space; 3/4 page to 1.5 pages in length

Due:  Friday, October 26 for all classes!
