8th Grade

In class we read David Sedaris’s  mini-memoir “I’ll Eat What He’s Wearing,” in which David descriptively and humorously details his father’s eccentric ways penny pinching with food.  You were given a graphic organizer for brainstorming your friends’ and family’s idiosyncrasies.  Select one, compose a one-page narrative describing your subject’s quirks and providing two or three scenes that show the eccentric habits in action.

You may organize your piece any way you like; however, if you’re struggling to get started, I suggest you emulate Sedaris’s sequence: open with a scene (called anecdote), follow with straight forward description of the behavior, add another scene or two, and conclude coming full circle back to the opening scene.
