ATTWN Vocabulary list 2

7th Grade

You should be able to access the vocabulary words from the link above to complete your cards. (Scroll down to the second page to view all words.)  Remember, on the back side you are to write a sentence using the word; moreover,  the sentence must be about the book And Then There Were None. The cards are due Tuesday, January 4, 2011.

First, here is something to think about if you will be attending West Linn High School: being on the Amplifer staff.  This is the school newspaper, and let me tell you from my high school experience, it’s a blast.  I’ll tell you more about this when we return to school in January.

You have a reading log, on which you may record any time you spend reading your challenged book.  The expectation is that you have that book completed, along with your note sheet of content someone might consider objectionable and examples of YALTs (Young Adult Literature Themes), by January 4, 2011.

One more assignment that we didn’t get to on Friday: an example of incorporating a long and short excerpt into an essay.  Use the article “Shootin’ the Bull With Bullfighters” for this work.

You should have selected a novel to read and analyze for our banned/challegened book unit of study.  As you read, jot down notes on the chart provided in class.  Note content that someone might find objectionable based on the handout with bar graph of  controversial topics.  At the same time, note content that supports YALTS (Young Adult Literature Themes).

You are expected to have your novel read and notes taken by Friday, December 17.

Vocabulary is due (including exercises) on Wedesday, Dec. 15.

On Friday,  December 10, you are expected to have mug shot for all ATTWN characters.  Refer to each character’s description on your Character/Plot Graphic Organizer to determine what you think the character looks like.  The pictures should fit inside the cell labeled mug shot. Remember you may NOT use the movie version actors’ pictures.

Today we spent a lot of time discussing topics that elicit challenges in young adult literature. Begin recording on the chart provided, examples of  content that someone might find objectionable in the book you selected.

You are expected to have your book read by Friday, December17.

Vocabulary words were distributed Tuesday.  The exercises are due and the quiz is Wednesday, December 15.
