  • 4th Quarter Home Reading Log (HRL): No more HRL for the year!  🙂

  • Weekly Planner Sheet This is a document for students who have lost their planner.  It’s a sheet they can print out weekly and use to record their homework.  The template mimics our planners.  Since students are required to use a planner – this template is offered as a replacement for those who may need it.

MONDAY 4/24 – “A” Day

PERIODS 1 , 2, & 5  :

  • Students read an excerpt from a novel that modeled strong “Imagery” and “Interior Monologue”.  They highlighted/underlined examples of both as they read, and we discussed the examples in small groups and as a class.

HOMEWORK:

  1. Select 2 Memories from their timeline to write about in next class.

TUESDAY 4/25  – “B” Day

 PERIOD 6 

  • See homework listed for Periods 1,2, & 5 above for Monday.

  1. Select 2 Memories from their timeline to write about in next class.

PERIODS 2 & 5  :

  • Today students selected one of the two memories they identified and began brainstorming details to write about. They focused on sensory details.
  • They met with a partner and “told” their story while their partner listened and asked questions.  While sharing their story they were to pay attention to how they felt and what they thought about their story (interior monologue).  They could add to their brainstorming at any time while they talked.
  • Then, students were given the rest of class to type up their story. The first draft is due in their next class session.
  • Their Narrative Essay is limited to:
    • ONE page ONLY
    • Size 12 Font
    • They can choose the line spacing and margins

WEDNESDAY  4/26  – “C” Day

 PERIODS 1  & 6 :

HOMEWORK:

  1. 1st Draft of one-page Narrative Essay
    Period 5DUE 4/26

    Periods 1, 2, & 6DUE 4/27

PERIOD 5  

  • Students looked at a sample Narrative and highlighted/marked “Imagery” and “Interior Monologue”.  
  • Then students partnered up and  read each others’ papers – highlighting/marking “Imagery” and “Interior Monologue”.  Then, they offered “PQP” (Praise, Question, Polish) on  the back.
  • Finally, students were given the rest  of  class  to revise  their draft  for the  FINAL DRAFT that  is DUE Friday, 4/28.  Students need to bring in TWO copies of their  final draft.

THURSDAY  4/27 – “D” Day 

PERIODS 1 , 2 & 6

HOMEWORK:

  1. FINAL Draft of one-page Narrative Essay (Two Copies)
    Periods 1, 2, 5, & 6  – DUE 4/28

FRIDAY 4/28 – “E” Day  

PERIODS 1 , 2, 5, & 6 

  • Students highlighted and underlined one Final Draft copy of their Narrative Essay for Imagery (highlight) and Interior Monologue (underline).  Then, they stapled it to their rough draft and turned them in.  
  • They turned in the second Final Draft copy of the Narrative Essay, unmarked to me.
  • Next, we spent the class period looking over a sample of the state assessment we will be taking next Wednesday.  Student tried some questions and explored all the tools available to them during the test.  I also spent time answering questions they had.
