Welcome to Athey Creek Middle School and 7th grade Science!
The curriculum of seventh grade science is made up of various topics and will include science activities, labs, demonstrations, scientific reading, writing and vocabulary, some field work at our pond and garden spaces and field trips.

For 7th grade, the major topics to be studied include:
Introduction to Science: What is science?; Lab safety; Scientific method/inquiry
Introduction to Matter: Basic concepts of Chemistry; Atomic structure; Periodic Table of Elements; Elements, Compounds and Molecules
Interactions of Matter: Chemical and physical changes; How matter, and changes in matter, make up the interdependent systems of our world
Geology: Rocks and minerals; Composition of the surface and interior of the Earth; earth history; Plate tectonics; Natural hazards such as earthquakes and volcanoes.
Cell Biology: Functions of cells including cell division, cancer.
Genetics: Principles of genetics, inheritance factors, DNA structure and chemical makeup, genetic diseases and disorders
Environmental Science: Ecosystems and population dynamics; Human impacts on the environment; Plant structure and function, plant processes including photosynthesis and respiration; starting and growing seeds in our school garden.

Daily agendas are posted on the next tab titled “Daily Agenda”.  Click on that tab to find out what we’ve done in class each day and to find out due dates of assignments and quizzes.  I try to update daily.

Ms. Bell’s Office Hours:  Tues., Wed., Fri.: 8:30-9:00am by appointment; Lunches every day; After school until 4:15pm by appointment.
